PM VISIT TO
THE UAE
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the United Arab Emirates on May 15, 2026, as part of the first leg of his
five-nation tour, where he received a grand welcome in Abu Dhabi. Upon his
arrival in the UAE, Prime Minister Modi was accorded a Guard of Honour. Senior
UAE officials welcomed him at the airport. This visit
is considered significant in further strengthening the strategic partnership
between India and the UAE. During this visit,
Prime Minister Modi discussed bilateral relations, energy cooperation, investment,
and regional issues with the UAE leadership.
THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE PRIME MINISTER's VISIT IS ENERGY
Significant agreements are
expected to be finalized between the two nations during PM Modi's tour of the
UAE. These discussions will specifically address energy due to the conflict
involving Iran. Against this backdrop, India is poised to seal cooperation in
the context of the prevailing global situation. Supply chains have been
disrupted two major agreements with the UAE to meet its oil and gas requirements—specifically
regarding Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and strategic petroleum reserves.
DELEGATION-LEVEL TALKS
During delegation-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt gratitude for taking the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two nations to new heights. During his visit to India in January, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan had agreed to upgrade bilateral relations. Both nations acknowledged that, even within such a short span of time, significant progress has been achieved across all domains. In the current global landscape, the significance of India-UAE strategic cooperation has grown immensely. In the times ahead, both the country will move forward together in every sector.
INDIA
IS WITH UAE IN EVERY SITUATION
PM Modi stated,
"India stands shoulder to shoulder with the UAE in every situation, and
will continue to do so. India is ready to extend every possible support for the
restoration of peace and stability as soon as possible. We will continue to
move forward together in every sector in the times to come." India is ready to extend every support to bring peace to
West Asia.
PM Modi described the UAE as his “second home” and thanked the Emirati side for the warm reception he received. PM Modi, who held talks with the UAE President, condemned the attacks on the country amid the West Asia war. He said the impact of the conflict is being felt globally, and added that “India is ready to extend all possible support to bring peace”.
EXCHANGE OF MEMORANDA OF UNDERSTANDING
India and the UAE
exchanged Memorandums of Understanding in the presence of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
During
the visit, an agreement was reached regarding a strategic defense partnership
between India and the UAE. The defence framework
encompasses cooperation across defence industry collaboration, cyber security,
counter-terrorism, innovation and interoperability.
Additionally,
both nations signed a MoU concerning Strategic Petroleum Reserves, a move
expected to bolster India's energy security. A significant consensus was also
reached regarding the supply of LPG, or cooking gas. Furthermore, both
countries agreed to establish a ship repair cluster at Vadinar in Gujarat.
Meanwhile, the UAE announced an investment of US$ 5 billion
across India's infrastructure sector, RBL Bank, and Sammaan Capital—a
development being hailed as a major step forward for India-UAE economic relations.
Due to the conflict in Iran, the entire world is grappling with
an energy crisis. India, too, has not remained unaffected. In these challenging
times, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in the UAE to further bolster
energy security.
This
visit is taking place at a time when India is rapidly expanding its economic
and strategic ties with the Gulf region. The Federation of Indian Export
Organisations (FIEO) has termed this tour as immensely significant for India,
stating that it will unlock new opportunities for Indian exporters and lend
fresh momentum to trade relations.
FIEO
President S.C. Ralhan remarked that Prime Minister Modi's high-level meetings
could open up new markets for Indian companies in sectors such as engineering,
clean energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, textiles, food processing,
logistics, and digital trade.
The
UAE is India's key trade and investment partner and serves as a crucial gateway
for Indian exports to the Middle East and Africa. Describing Prime Minister
Modi as a cherished asset to the leadership and people of the Emirates, Reem Al
Hashimy, the UAE's Minister of State for International Cooperation, stated that
the relations between the two nations are poised to reach new heights in the
fields of trade and technology. She described PM Modi as a "true
treasure" for the Emirates' leadership and people.
